Hi there! This is my home page. I've been thinking of making one for probably eight years now, but I never found anything interesting to put on it... I still don't have anything interesting to put on it, but I won't let that stop me anymore :) So...

Welcome to Dave's Stupid Page!

Since everyone seems to use their home page to talk about themselves, I guess I should do the same... :)

What Dave Does

Okay, well, I work as a contract computer programmer, mainly doing Windows and Macintosh stuff (eew :). My favorite computer's the Apple II though... I learned how to program on an Apple II+ (well, a Taiwanese clone :), and I still do some programming on my Apple IIgs in my non-existent free time, so I guess I've been programming Apple IIs for about 14 years now :)

Unix is really super cool too... I finally had to get an Intel box for work (I was hoping to get through life without ever owning one, but I didn't make it :), and while I have to run various flavors of Windows (3.1, 95, NT) for my work-related stuff, I run NetBSD on it when I want to have fun with my computer :) NetBSD is a free Unix, based on 4.4BSD-Lite that runs on all sorts of platforms, such as your everyday IBM PC clone (386 and up), Macs, Amigas, Suns, Alphas, and many others. I know Linux is super popular and gets all the attention, but it looks too System V to me... icky :) FreeBSD and OpenBSD are other free BSD type Unixes.

Back to multicolored fruity computers, I've also got a Macintosh Centris 660av that I bought used. Got it mainly so I could do Mac programming stuff for work, but I decided to go for the 660av instead of a faster machine, 'cuz it has neato video capture capabilities built in :) Also has a DSP chip, and DSPs are awesome :) Too bad I haven't found much software that actually uses it though. One of these days, maybe I'll try to write something for it... I sometimes run NetBSD on it too, although I don't have enough disk space to really do too much with it. It's still really neat to have a nice version of Unix running on my Mac though :) A/UX is ancient SVR2 stuff... really gross :) (and I'm not sure if A/UX even runs on a 660av)

Other computers in my collection are a WinBook XLi laptop, a DEC Alpha PC164, a NeXTstation Turbo, and a PowerMac G4 dual processor (more info forthcoming, perhaps :)

I'm not sure how I got into the programming business... I got my BS in Math, from the University of St. Thomas, and I went to the University of Texas at Austin for a bit, trying to get my masters in Physics. Never finished though :) I needed money so I went looking for a job instead, and ended up programming computers :)

Stuff Dave Likes

Besides computers, here's some other stuff I like:

PGP public key

Oh yeah, here's my PGP public key if you're interested...

Pictures!

And finally, everyone has to have pictures of themselves on their home page right? Well, so y'all won't be disappointed, I've got vacation pictures for you to look at! :)
